Ensuring HS2's participation in the communications between Design contractors and Engineering contractors, reporting health and safety handover file numbers, creating various data and presentation visualizations. Also upgrading existing processes to accommodate a larger workload, which comes as a result of the project growing and progressing.
I've developed new skills on new pieces of software such as PowerBi, I gained skills in building data presentation dashboards, I learnt about CDM purpose and regulations and they are being applied to my role and organisation. I learnt about the importance of liaising with others in the industry.
I thoroughly enjoyed the programme, it provided me with the opportunity to move forwards and develop.
HS2 is fairly well structured, being a tall structure public sector company it has to adhere to strict regulations and standards whilst being under heavy scrutiny. Drawbacks are having private contractors, who use their own processes and systems which can make organisation very difficult, HS2 does well to sort this.
I feel very supported at HS2, with a large range of support packages that come with my employment benefits. There are plenty of dedicated staff who are tasked with helping, and HS2 fosters a good positive working environment that encourages the support of others.
Full support, my tutor remained contactable at all times and was more than happy to accommodate my needs and requests whenever I had them. They tracked my performance in a very clear and helpful way, and implemented a very good working strategy that worked for me.
It got me to keep records of my actions and made me reflect I what I had been doing which helped me identify new skills that I had picked up, allowing me to see where I could go onwards to improve.
Yes, plenty of invites to events such as Railtex, volunteering opportunities for development and engagement are promoted and I am always encouraged to take some up. Team meet ups and site visits are frequent too.
Yes
HS2 very clearly value the talent they get from the Apprenticeship scheme, and keenly keep us on. That provides the perfect step up for people like me, who are hoping to secure a career either in the construction industry or the railway industry. There is a wide variety of roles.
Network as much as you can, and get out on site as much as possible because seeing the route develop as you working is very motivating and is a very unique memory for you cherish. Workloads are getting heavier, so prepare a plan for work/life balance.
