  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I currently work as a test analyst in a global projects team which aims to automate the production of financial reports for our clients, using a variety of systems. Day to day, I manage the workload of a team of testers in Mumbai, conduct meetings with project managers, manage any defects that may arise with the systems we are testing and create standard procedure documents to ensure best practice and consistency throughout the team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my organisational and communication skills since beginning this apprenticeship. I have also been more thoroughly trained in using the Microsoft Office Suite of applications, as well as learning how to use many of the systems we use and build in house at J.P Morgan. As well as this, through events arranged as part of the apprenticeship, I have learnt how to interact and communicate with very senior members of the firm.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed the J.P. Morgan apprenticeship programme as it has allowed me a gradual progression from school into the workplace. I enjoy how our professional qualification, the CISI IOC certificate, has helped me to understand the functions of the bank and the financial services industry as a whole. I have also enjoyed, the opportunities we have been given as apprentices, such as meeting some of the most senior members of the firm.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by J.P. Morgan?
  • Since beginning my apprenticeship scheme at J.P. Morgan, I have been treated no differently to any other member of my team I am given the same tasks to carry out and the same level of responsibility as others of my seniority. I feel like I'm a valued member of my team, who makes a significant impact on the progress and achievements we make.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our programme is very structured, when we join, we are given a timetable form our training provider, BPP which dictates when all of our competency-based tasks books are due, the dates and timings of all our lectures and when we are due to sit our exams. This is also supported by in person visits from our assessors and lecturers on a regular basis and constant support from our apprenticeship coordinators onsite.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager has been a great help in assisting me with the evidence needed in order to complete my competency task books. He has also helped me with some background knowledge on some of my exam topics, such as SWIFT messaging and project management lifecycles. We also receive great support from our apprenticeship coordinators onsite with any issues we may be facing, both with the course or our job roles.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I currently still live with my parents so my salary of £13000 P/A more than meets my costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • At J.P. Morgan Bournemouth there are many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of your day job. For example, I have participated in a corporate social responsibility day, where we helped to renovate a primary school. As well as this, I took part in the annual 'round the island' cycle event to raise money for the Ellen McArthur Cancer Trust, along with most of the other apprentices last summer.

  • 9. Would you recommend J.P. Morgan to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think the J.P. Morgan apprenticeship is an amazing opportunity to begin your career at an early age and provides you with the necessary skills and experience to join the firm as a full time employee at the end of the scheme.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to J.P. Morgan?
  • Do plenty of research about the firm and about the Bournemouth site in particular. Know why you have chosen J.P. Morgan over our competitors and why you want to join the apprenticeship scheme over going to university. Finally, be yourself and show your personality - our recruitment process looks for the type of person we want to hire, not just your academic qualities.
