My role here is a juinor developer, I mainly work with c# programming language but i have also been involved in creating services for stakeholders and other LM employees can use. I also spent alot of the free time i get researching new topics and new things i can get involved in.
Yes, since joining lockheed in september i have learnt a new programming language, c# which was difficult at first but i am finding easier everyday and i have also improved my existing skills of algorithms and hierarchical processes from working with workflows that go through multiple steps. Faster typing and reading also.
I really enjoy my programme, this course is great as it builds more knowledge on the previous courses i have been on however there is more revision from our training provider which is good and more hands on work experience at lockheed getting hands on and getting involved in developing solutions.
This programmed is very well structured and organized. They seem like they have definetly had apprentices at the company before which is helpful to talk to get more context on how my own journey will be. The structure of the training providers courses are also detailed and scheduled with helpful advise.
I recieve plenty of support from my employer, my manager regularly checks up with me and another apprentice and is always wondering what we are doing and getting involved in. This also includes my mentor who is also supporting me and my journey with the company and getting used to topics.
When we are at PETA ltd, they is good enough support from the teachers there and they also have a couple of us in there which means we have broad discussions on how they can best help us depending on what we have been doing and learning at our respective companies.
I feel that because it is revising topics which i would overlook this is good for me as it gives me a chance to look back again at the theory we had learnt for the programming course and understand it more now that i have used and practiced with it.
Yes there are diffrent activites at work for example there are codequest which is a coding competition which challenges students to fix problems and find solutions in python or other low level languages. Cyberquest and we also have digital academy which is a web base for any courses you want to do on your own time.
Yes
I would recommend lockheed martin to a friend because they have a good reputation as a company, they are very flexible with their hours which means you can manage your own time aslong as you are meeting the correct number of hours per week and also because of an exiting work environment
Tips of advice i would give to other applying to lockheed would be to make sure you have good team and communication skills. to make sure you can explain your past experiences on your CV with detailed examples from past experiences so you can prove what you know to them.
