  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day activity usually involves answering the phone, replying to emails, creating quotations, sending quotations to customers, giving prices to customers over the phone, sending price requests to supplier in case we have no stock in the branch or central stores, organising deliveries for customers, taking payments over the phone.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • the new skills I have acquired in my role is my speed of sales has increased, as i also help with warehouse duties and hire, I have a gained a considerable amount of knowledge on the tools that we're able to hire out to our customers. I've also gained more knowledge on plumbing and heating products

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed undertaking the programme as it gave me more in depth knowledge of various areas that are related to my role, i also enjoyed having discussions with my apprenticeship coaches as they also provided me with the help where and when required. I hope after undertaking this programme I'm able to continue my learning even more

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation and structure of the programme was to a high standard, video calling and classes were scheduled very conveniently for everyone involved which didn't disrupt my work. If sessions were missed due to unforeseen circumstances, then the coaches would forward the slides and video recordings. Very pleased with the structuring of the course

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • the support i receive from my employer are second to none, they offer masses amount of flexibility in regards to emergencies, if you need to talk to someone about your mental health and your career ambitions. I feel my employer is approachable in any department whether it be personal or on a professional level

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support I received from my coaches were unparalleled, as they were always available whenever I needed them. I never had any problems whenever I was unsure on a particular subject or if I needed more information to understand it more clearly. Very pleased with the level of support received

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my level of knowledge has improved after undertaking the qualification. Even though I feel I had good knowledge of my role, the course gave me an even deeper understanding of what it takes to succeed and progress within my role. i gained a lot of theoretical knowledge after completing the course

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Within my branch, we do have social events, this could be socialising outside of work which could be going for a couple of games of Pool, going for food, we also have a get together meal for the branch when it comes close to Christmas. Also when we have stock take we're rewarded with free meals as a thank you.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • BSS is a great place to work, very friendly and non pressured environment, plenty of rewards and perks, flexibility within the workplace, fantastic opportunities to progress, great for attaining new skills and knowledge, very supportive when it comes to personal issues, plenty of support if and when required, best job I've had to date.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Travis Perkins Plc?
  • The advice i'd give to others is when you apply for a role within BSS, you'd be impressed with the support you gain from colleagues and managers, you always feel included regardless of what department you operate in, and enjoy your role as these sort of careers don't come around very often
