I am unsure how the degree on my course relates to my role, there are very few parallels between what I learn at Uni and what i do on a day to day basis.

Yes
The experience working at BMW is very good, lots of opportunities to develop, travel and network, improving your professional experiences.
For Eng Tech make sure your maths is to a good standard otherwise the first year of the degree may be difficult. Be yourself, ask questions, don't be afraid to put yourself out there.
