My role is Audit trainee and on a day to day basis I partake in various tests on various sections of the APT file this ranges from fixed assets all the way through to things like subsequent events. I get hybrid working and some days come into the office and some days am able to work from home.
In my time in this role I have been able to develop many skills mainly being excel skills this is because excel is such an important part of our role and we always use it. Another skill I have developed well is my communication while speaking to many different people at different companies.
I would say I enjoy my programme to a high level, this has given me the opportunity to meet many new people and make lots of new friends while in the role. The job also isn't too pressured so the stress isn't always too high. However overtime is sometimes expected.
The programme is very well structured, being a massive company BDO is able to structure things almost perfectly. From my first month I was almost able to see how my whole 4 year programme would be laid out. This goes from internal to external training. BPP exams are booked internally from the start so we know when they will be roughly from the start.
When you start at BDO you are assigned a people manager to support any needs that you have throughout your time at BDO this is both personally and in terms of work. Whenever you message them they are always there to help and will book in frequent catch up calls to make sure you are doing alright.
At BDO they are a big company and they have whole teams assigned to helping you out with your training provider and exams with the professional qualification team. BPP also provide a good support network and you can speak to tutors at many times as well as meeting new people in the same course that may also be able to help.
At the moment I am not too far through my course but I have felt that my courses so far have benefited me massively in my role mainly being assurance and accounting this is because when raising journals accounting is vital and assurance is everything to do with why we do what we do in audit.
There are quite frequently social events after work. Always when people leave they have events and in winter and summer there are usually events ranging from team days, christmas parties and going to events like newmarket races. These are always great fun and are a brilliant opportunity to bring the team together.
Yes
I would recommend BDO to a friend due to it being a huge company with a lot of connections meaning that all the way through the training they provide you with the best possible support due to how much man power they have got. They also pay a very competitive salary and the work life balance quite good.
When applying for BDO I would recommend studying the company inside and out and trying to align your CV and mindset to the values and cultures of the company. You have to know all the specifics about what is good with the company for example when I joined on my assessment centre I tried to remember the revenue of the company, number of offices and amount of staff.
