As an auditor, the work is project/booking based, you work on a particular client for a few weeks, asking for information and testing the clients numbers that they use in their financial statements to make sure they are correct. Client calls are often and you travel to their site.
Being in audit develops a wide range of soft skills for life. You have to manage your workload, keep key stakeholders like the client informed and be technical in your testing . You do this by doing your apprenticeship and applying it in the testing that you conduct.
It is enjoyable, you learn alot of technical areas that you use in your work which is gratifying. It can be difficult at times with managing the workload but overall it is rewarding.
It is very structured. You sit certain exams each year building up each level of the ACA qualification. You have set time to learn each year and often go into college for a few weeks to get taught on the exam.
If you need help you can defer exams and Mazars does accommodate you if you need extra time as they want you to pass as much as you want to. It is very independent however and you need to learn how to manage yourself.
There are regular emails to catch up with your performance as you are assessed regular leading up to exams. Tutors are always available and their are dedicated help lines and emails if you need help.
The qualification covers a lot of different areas of industry like Law, accounting the economy. So, some parts are not particularly applicable at the certificate and professional level. However advanced and case are very relevant and focus exclusively on accounting issues.
Social activates are usually every month. But there are also larger ones every quarter. There is a sports day and lots of societies to join for your religion, sporting interest etc.
Yes
Mazars has a particularly work good culture and very accommodating to peoples personal lives. The people are what make me want to stay at the firm and the prospects of Mazars as a firm are bright, winning new clients etc. Thus there is a lot of opportunity to grow.
Its a client facing industry so be yourself. You will need to work with clients and develop good working relationships. The ACA and work together is not easy but very doable and if you manage yourself, very achievable and a very good qualification to have under your belt.
