  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day can vary from being in the weighbridge weighing in Tarmac trucks and collect customers making sure they get loaded with correct material to being on the ADT moving stock around or being on the loading shovel loading the trucks or the hoppers for us to reclaim material for trains etc

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As I came from a completely different industries I had no idea what quarrying would be like. I have learnt how to drive the articulated dumper truck and the wheel loading shovel which is vital for my current job role. It has given me more confidence to go outside of my comfort zone.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the PODP as this allows you to gain new skills and understanding of subjects that I previously didn’t know. I have learnt new things about sections of the company I’m not involved in such as concrete and because of that I have been on site visits with the concrete team.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Our programme is extremely well organised as it is very clearly set out before you’ve even started the program as you are given dates of each course you will be attending and also receive reminders via email just incase you forget. Booklets are handed out each session for you to take back with you.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive regular support from my training manager who is always available for me to ask questions via email, teams or on the phone. Andy visits my site at least once every couple of weeks to go through my course work and to offer advice on any improvements needed to be done.

  • I receive regular support from my training manager who is always available for me to ask questions via email, teams or on the phone. He visits my site at least once every couple of weeks to go through my course work and to offer advice on any improvements needed to be done.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the qualifications will help Me perform better as it will give me confidence in subjects I previously knew nothing about as well as confidence in subjects I currently have knowledge about. It is very valuable towards my day to day working life and helps me offer advise to other colleagues

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Currently there is nothing organised through work however between ourselves we do organised social events such as going to the football or going to the pub as for a drink. This is good for all colleagues to come along and join in as it allows us to bond outside of work.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Tarmac to a friend and have done previously as I feel Tarmac invest in everyone who works within the company’s future and they definitely make sure you excel in yourself to do your best. This is important as it shows they want you to process within the business


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tarmac?
  • Make sure you’re open to getting involved in all that’s on offer within tarmac such as first aid courses, fire warden courses and even doing podp if given the chance as this will give you extra knowledge which you can use in every day to day life not just at work
