App development for in house applications to automate existing business practices and processes. Currently supporting several third party and in house applications that are required for daily use by multiple business areas within the organization, this involves handling and rectifying raised issues by making necessary adjustments depending on the application.
Upon joining I was only knowledgeable in one programming language. Since starting I have tackled a much wider range of development languages spanning different operating systems and platforms to the point where I can individually carry out maintenance work on existing applications, and start from scratch in building new applications from the design and planning phase up until the implementation phase.
I thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship experience as it really helped me to shape my career by learning new aspects of a subject I enjoy everyday. Every new project or task is a learning curve and I always finish up the project with new skills learnt along the way which in turn continues to benefit me and my career.
My first two years I was with a local training agency that continuously set me tasks for each review period as well as allowing me to partake in extra programming oriented courses alongside the mandatory courses for my learning. The last three years I attended a degree apprenticeship which posed many challenges but also helped me to learn a lot about a variety of different subjects.
Whenever I am tackling any project work that I may not be fully understanding of, I am able to reach out to anybody in my team for assistance or review whether that person be another developer or my line manager. Help is always available when asked for and you are never criticized for requiring assistance.
Particularly throughout my last three years on my degree apprenticeship, I was allowed all the time I required outside of my University allocated day to tackle any submission and project work I had. I was able to reach out to members of my team for assistance and reviews for all of my project work to ensure I had the understanding of the tasks at hand. In short, I couldn't have asked for any more support than I received.
My qualification has helped me to perform within my role by teaching me a whole variety of aspects related to the world of programming and thus enables me to tackle a wider variety of experienced problems I encounter within different projects. I find myself more adapted to tackle challenges that before my qualification I may not have been able to take on before.
There are two notable extra curricular activities a year that are based around coding and cyber related activities that employees are able to get involved in, whether this is creating code or cyber based challenges, hosting these challenges or partaking as judges or support towards the teams involved throughout these challenges.
Yes
Quite simply, the support I have received throughout my time studying between two different apprenticeships has enabled me to really take off in my career. I have managed to achieve accolades and accomplishments during my time as an apprentice that previously I wouldn't have thought myself capable of and for that reason I can happily recommend Lockheed Martin to others in my position.
To apply any and all of your skills to your daily work and really strive to hit your own growth and development personal goals as well as goals within the organization, and to always ask for assistance whenever you feel it can benefit you as there are always resources to help you through your day to day activities.
