  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My daily duties include handling customer enquiries in written and verbal communication channels. I also complete DNO (distribution network operator) forms regularly and inform them on both solar and EV charger installations. I also assist with day to day scheduling of the organisation and help complete OZEV (office for zero-emission vehicles), amongst other basic admin duties.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed existing skills, such as attention to detail to spot if the power supply to a property is looped, or I can now also tell the different main earthing arrangements. I've also improved my confidence and my communication skills and have become more self-motivated since starting my position within the company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • As much as I love working for the organisation, the actual training provider experience was not the best. There was a lot of miscommunication that took a while to be resolved, and at times I didn't feel supported with my SpLD. Whilst I still enjoyed doing my apprenticeship, I felt a bit let down by the training provider.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The blend of online 1:1 sessions, with the occasional webinar, blended well with my off-the-job training time spent completing work and assessments. I feel that tutors could have engaged more when any issues arose or help was needed. However, the actual programme was well structured and had no issues with the structure of the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Since day 1, I have received endless support from my employer and have never felt unsupported. I've always had resources and help when needed, and I have had an overall positive experience with my employer, and was lucky enough to be kept on with my employer after the completion of my apprenticeship and even received a promotion.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • During the EPA period and before that when working on my locator form and revision, when the majority of the programme learning was done, my tutor changed, due to my original tutor leaving the organisation, so I had a delay in having my questions answered, but once I'd brought it to a senior member of staff's attention that I had unanswered questions, I was quickly reassigned and was offered much more support in my final weeks than any other time.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I already had some experience doing many of the duties due to previous work experience and education. However, I did find that with certain, more complex topics covered in my apprenticeship, I got a better understanding of their internal working of them through my qualification. Still, at the same time, there were parts of my course that we're relevant to my current organisation.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Social activities are available within my organisation, such as the opportunity to go out with the staff once a month to socialise and spend time with each other outside of the work environment. However, due to the organisation being small, they are large mass gatherings; it's just a small get-together at a local pub that you can attend or not, whichever you prefer.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Lovely people, a lovely environment, and plenty of support from staff members. Everybody is welcoming and easy to get along with. Work is actually enjoyable due to everybody being nice, friendly and polite. Everybody helps everybody and works as a team to ensure tasks are completed on time, and the workload is equally distributed.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Danlec Electrical Solutions LTD?
  • Be as open and true to yourself as possible. If help is needed, remember to ask, as your need for help will be welcomed, as everyone would rather you ask questions than struggle. Be kind and respectful to others, and treat other organisation members with the same respect you wish to receive.
