My role at the minute is to gain my qualification at college and through my training provider as I am on an apprenticeship. I currently go to college full time (4 days a week with one day as study for assignments). During my holidays I get a chance to catch up on work or go out and shadow full time engineers. However when I complete my apprenticeship I will have a chance to undergo another interview for a full time role with Siemens Healthineers. When i go for the role, I will either become a DX or Imogene engineer.
I have learnt many new skills whilst being on this apprenticeship so far from my practical work such as fit and file techniques and welding skills. Furthermore, I have also added to my skills through lathes in terms of how to taper and knurl. During the short time I have been on this apprenticeship so far, I have also gained new knowledge of theory work and calculations relating to mechanical principles and Electrical principles.
I am really enjoying the apprenticeship programme so far as it has opened so many chances for me to progress myself. This helps me to gain the best advantage I can for when I go for the interview at the end for the full time job. I like how easy both my Training provider and employers are to approach if I needed help etc.
I believe the programme is structured very well in terms of the college side and this helps me to understand where I am with my progress and what I have left to complete and work on. In terms of my training provider (Stegta) I am not too sure as to where I am with my progress fully yet but this may be due to being full time in college at the moment.
I have received a lot of support when needed or asked for it from my employer. I have on a few occasions asked for help in terms of college work when out with engineers, which they have then helped me understand. I have also received support from my manager when there has been problems weather its personal or technology wise which I appreciate.
My training provider have helped me to stick to deadlines and give me assistance when I have tasks to complete or not too sure what the question/task is asking of me. Furthermore, we have monthly reviews which we will talk about how we are progressing and what the plan is for the future tasks to help keep moving through the programme and achieve my qualifications.
The qualifications that I will gain from the apprenticeship will help me to understand and perform better service. This is because I am gaining better knowledge of how to apply myself in certain situations and perform better as an engineer, due to extra practical skills as well as people skills. Furthermore, this helps to keep the customers satisfied as I will be better trained up.
We have Apprenticeship forums twice a year. One forum is more learning based where we will go to a site and learn more about our products, where as the other is more of a get together and socialise at the end of the year. We then also have Engineers forums within our regions which we will be able to attend; helps us to get to know the full time engineers team.
Yes
Because they treat their employees very well in terms of work colleagues and friends. They also allow for good opportunities weather its the qualifications you get in the apprenticeship or if you get a job at the end of it as well. The company also pays for your fuel and food during the work days which is a good bonus.
Just be yourself because everyone in the team weather its the apprentices or full time engineers accept everyone and get along well. Try your hardest to progress yourself and seek help if you need it because not everyone gets it the first or second time. Show ambition and desire for this if its what you want to do and love it.
