  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have to run shifts, train my team, hold the keys to the store, make up floats and cash them up afterwards, count the safe and overall just manage different systems in the store such as labour controls, waste controls and ensure a smooth running of the store during its open business hours.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new skills during my apprenticeship so far such as different leadership styles, the benefits of being prepared for change, the importance of sales forecasting and how to do this, how different financial factors of the business can affect the amount of the overall profit we make.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far I am really enjoying the programme. All of the work I have done so far is either things I already know that I can develop and strengthen my skills within or are totally new things that I have learnt but I feel can now help me bring more to my business.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think overall the programme is relatively organised and well structured. All of the work I complete is laid out easily and is structured well so that I learnt about different modules separately so I can concentrate on focusing on learning and developing each new bit of information and skill at once.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From the very start of my apprenticeship I have had a great amount of support from my employer. My company are very keen to get people involved in apprenticeships due to our business consultant having completed one himself so he is very aware of the benefits and pushes for us to give ourselves the same chance to learn and develop.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a fair amount of support from my training provider when working towards my qualification. I feel like this could maybe be improved as I’m not even a year into my apprenticeship yet and they have randomly changed my tutor 3 times and it’s hard to build a good relationship where I feel like I can ask for support when I get given a new tutor out of the blue that doesn’t really know me or understand how I work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like my qualification with lifetime will help me to perform better in my role due to all of the modules I complete in my apprenticeship have so far been relevant and relatable back to the job role that I am currently in so I can develop my new and existing skills in these areas.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are. Every quarter we hold a crew event so we are able to get together with our team and enjoy a day out together away from work which can help us better our work relationships. We also hold fun runs and other exercise events every now and then.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend McDonald’s to a friend as since day one they have helped me progress. In a short space of time I have made it through several promotions and have been helped through the process with strong training, support and have been pushed to become a stronger member of the team.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • Don’t let the type of job it is put you off. The opportunities within the company are amazing such as employee benefits (food allowance on break, 28 days holiday pay, employee discounts etc) and not to forget the competitive rates of pay and pay rises that get added on with every successful PR.
