We are delivering training to our pub teams. This could be during a capex or through our different learning channels. where we will develop solutions based on training needs analysis. This training could be focused on the guest journey, speed of service or bar training. We have different pubs up and down the country so the job can take you anywhere.
I’ve found that my apprenticeship has really helped me grow and understand what L&D really is. It helped me learn new skills around Neuroscience within adult learning and develop existing skills, especially in delivering training. I’ve also felt an impact on my confidence which has grown throughout my apprenticeship.
I enjoy it because I enjoy learning new information, especially around my job, it also gives me the opportunity to try new things and push my comfort zone. It also gives me the opportunity to use my learnings within my role. I also enjoy being able to delve deeper into topics which I enjoy.
Marstons is brilliant when it comes to apprenticeships. However, I've found that the program is very loose, it isn't structured and it is very much left to your own devices. The workshops are hit and miss some are structured and others don't seem to have a clear path.
My manager is great with giving me the support and time needed for my apprenticeship. They are on hand throughout the program to give guidance if needed. We’ve got a great support network within Marstons who really want you to succeed within your apprenticeship and who are there to talk things through and offer that support if needed.
You kind of just get left to it. I've only had two one-to-ones with my tutor and realistically especially in the start this could do to be more often just to see how you are getting on or if there is extra support/time you need. The system doesn't get explained well either and you just have to learn as you go.
I feel my apprenticeship has helped me grow knowledge and confidence within my role. It gives me the opportunity to use what I've learnt and put it into practice. I understand more about the Learning and Development industry and feel confident in the knowledge I now have about it.
I'm field-based so being able to join in any social activities with my employer would be difficult. I believe there are extra-curricular activities at our head office but it's not near where I live so to go to them would be traveling into a city when i could be anywhere in the country
Yes
MArston's is a great company to work for, they really care about people which isn't something a lot of the other big 6 companies can say! They invest in their people with development programs and are a real ambassador for apprenticeships. You don't feel like a number, you treated as individual people. No two days are the same and it's a great place to work.
Do it, if you want to feel like you are valued and cared for its the place to be. They are a come-as-you-are company. You don't have to fit in a box to fit in and succeed. We have a lot of networks within marstons too which you are welcome to join and there's a lot of support around you.
