My job role is to make decisions regarding claimants universal credit entitlement as well as historically correcting entitlement based on any new evidence. I am required to follow legislations and regulations to make decisions. I am also required to request and analyse evidence provided by claimants as part of my decision making process.
In this job role I have learnt several new skills as well as developed on my existing skills. These skills include; communication, planning, presenting, time management etc. As part of my job role I am required to use these skills to ensure my job is completed at a high standard.
I enjoy the apprenticeship programme as it has allowed me to understand my organisational aspects regarding the business I am working for. Also, it has given me a better insight on the customers journey and how I can work towards making it an easy experience for them to ensure they are comfortable and happy with the service provided to them.
This apprenticeship programme is well organised as each phase is different and related to different business related topics. For example, DWP’s organisational culture, businesses legislations and regulations etc. Also, the systems used for this programme are structured well which makes it easy to navigate and complete any tasks required.
My employer has allowed me to spend a full business working day a week to complete any apprenticeship related tasks, this is a designated day for my apprenticeship work. This has allowed me to manage my work well and ensure I have sufficient time to complete my apprenticeship related tasks.
I have constant communications with my trainer who supports and guides me throughout my apprenticeship. I receive sufficient support with all my apprenticeship related tasks and they are well explained allowing me to work individually to ensure tasks are completed and I have worked to my full potential and completed tasks on time.
This apprenticeship helps me perform better throughout my day to day job as i have a better understanding of what the customers are expecting when communicating with DWP. Also, as a decision maker to ensure I do not cause claimants any problems I am now more aware of the severity of being thorough and making well thought and explained decisions.
There are many opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities allowing me to enhance my skills as well as for a social/work balance. These include; individual learning, workshops, job related fairs, networking events, sports teams. There are always different events taking place which any employee can join and participate in.
