I am currently an assistant store manager working towards store manager, my daily duties include managing a large team with the aim of hitting sales targets whilst remaining compliant. My day to day tasks include rota scheduling, stock counts, staff reviews, health and safety checks, staff observations, selling and much more.
I have developed a lot on the skills I already have including diversity and inclusion, managing an effective stock control system and communicating effectively with my team and stakeholders. I have learned new skills including how to be more commercially aware of the wider market, and how to use data analysis to spot sales trends.
It can be a lot of work at times on top of working a full time week but I have gained a lot from the programme. The meetings with my tutor are regular and I have more than enough support and materials in order to be successful. I would recommend the programme
The website used is fairly straight forward and any work assigned is easy to access. I am provided with regular feedback and attend regular meetings with my tutor both face to face and virtual. I can see my progress and what I have left on the course which is also helpful.
I could receive more support from my employer as a lot of the time I am not able to take my allocated time to complete the programme within my working hours. I do however have support if I need any help with any of my assignments and in my one to ones with my store manager.
I have a lot of support from my tutor and she provides me with any material necessary for my learning. My regular one to ones highlight what progress I have made since my last one to one and what progress I need to make going forwards, we set goals to make the progress easy to measure.
I feel it enhances my performance in my current job role and has given me the skills to excel when I become a store manager. I believe I now communicate better with my team and have more confidence when dealing with difficult situations. I believe it will only help me in future.
There are not many extra curricular activities but there are monthly meetings which is a good opportunity to network and meet new people. There is also a yearly conference for the whole company not just retail which again is a good networking event to meet people outside of your usual job.
Yes
I believe it is a good company to work for and has many employee benefits. I also feel valued as an employee and have a lot of support from my peers as well as my leadership team. It is also a good brand dedicated to helping its customers as well as its staff.
Make sure to be genuine as being personal with our customers and peers is at the heart of the brand. You need to be able to work well in a team with people from all different backgrounds and enjoy what you do. It is a good company to work for.
