My role is day to day aspects of a bus driver. Professional courtesy and representation of a professional bus service to the public. A role of responsibility using skills and common sense. Interpersonal skills and customer service protecting the image of my company whilst dealing with customer complaints I what they feel falls short of a level of service they demand.
Whilst I have obviously learned the skills to operate and drive a bus both safely and professionally, I do not feel the apprenticeship itself gave me the skills but the experienced staff within my company. The other skills necessary to do my duties were already within my skill set from previous roles.
As an apprenticeship, I totally feel it has given me no valid or necessary qualification for me to carry out my role. I have enjoyed my training, however, within an apprenticeship, it has felt totally unnecessary and a complete waste of time. Completing tasks which have no relevance to my role.
I feel the structure of the apprenticeship so far doesn't really exist. I have been taken away from duties I am fully capable of performing in order to learn skills or, rather refresh school skills I do not need for this role. The people delivering the course are fantastic and performing their role. However I just feel the whole experience unnecessary.
My employer is fully behind me carrying out my role to the best of my ability. Everything I've learned has been from them, their training and their experience. The apprenticeship course really has no bearing to my progress in my opinion . My employer even prefers me to be out there performing duties to being in a classroom on my apprenticeship learning.
When in the classroom I do get full support from all trainers toward my success in achieving my goals. However, I think I've had 4 or 5 sessions within 9 months now and the course is so disjointed and no fluency. I really believe it a waste of time
I absolutely feel the training I receive through this apprenticeship is completely giving me nothing of any value to performing better in my role. I have learned all the skills necessary from doing the job . All that's left is for me to hone my own experience to becoming a better professional.
I do not know of any social activities within my workplace. However, there are events which require teams to work away which may boost morale and develop a sense of belonging .there is also a lot of groups or help groups within the company set up to aid people with concerns.
Yes
I do like the life and role of being a bus driver. I like the role and job description. I feel free and whilst there are challenging aspects within the role, I feel a sense of belonging to an organisation which does have a family feel and a happy working environment even among the pressures.
I would advise any potential applicant to go for it. The initial training is challenging and quite pressurising. There's a lot of information to absorb in a short time. Embrace the challenge and enjoy it, but feel the apprenticeship is just some pointless thing you have to endure just to take the job.
