  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work within mainly CAD and excel. I have been fixing standard detailed drawings on multiple projects. Also I have been checking models against the schedule to ensure all the different objects are in the correct place. Then advancing these drawings into the workflow to be approved and check to be handed over to maintenance

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have worked with numerous software since starting work. Towards the start, the main skill I developed was using CAD. I used this everyday until I could confidently fix and create drawings. I have since moved on to Civil 3d and revit as my job requires different software for different jobs.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoy the designing and fixing side of my job. Working within live drawings is engaging as it requires different solutions that need to be figured out. Each problem has a different solution meaning it requires thought and working out to complete each one. It helps keep the role exciting.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure within Arcadis is very well organised. I always have someone who I can ask for help. Also I work closely with other apprentices that have done the same route as me and can provide the help needed. However, the university side isn't clear and can be confusing at times.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of help from work. We have a team of apprentices that are much further along the route meaning they understand the position I am in and can provide the most help. My line manager is always happy to have a call about an issue i have in work

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • They provide a good amount of help towards my qualifications. As the company has many different areas, there is always someone who is strong in the area I need help. I can also book out some of my time if I require additional time to prepare for my exams which helps reduce the amount if stress

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification will give me a wider knowledge of my role because it gives me a better understanding of key areas that are required as a civil engineer. having the better knowledge and understanding helps me complete my role to a better standard of work resulting in me getting harder tasks

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there is a football match played with in the office team. We have a teams group to post messages and organise when and where the match will be played. There have also been professional networking events thought-out the year for many reasons and is often covered by the company.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Arcadis to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They offer a very good working environment with friendly staff and a good office space that can be used. They provide good office equipment and help train staff to work with good DSE to keep the health of there employing good. they also have posts and help for anyone struggling mentally


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arcadis?
  • when going into the designing interview task. Make sure you get involved and present your ideas clearly, but listen to others ideas and been open to use them. Been a team player in these is a vital part of been able to get the job as its a big part of acradis
