At my current level I act as a store assistant which, includes multiple tasks both on the shop floor and working at the till. I will work deliveries, stock shelves during the day, keep the store presentable, and serve customers at the checkout.
Aside from the NVQ qualifications that I am currently gaining as part of the apprenticeship, I've learnt a lot of new personal and professional skills; I've learnt all of the skills both on and off the till to make me a functioning member of the team, and I've also managed to improve my level of confidence and versatility to different situations.
I really like the program; I think it's well supported by both the company and the learning provider, my colleagues are always professional yet friendly, and I'm always kept busy with different tasks so that I'm not just sat around bored on my shifts.
I feel valued by the company as I very frequently receive feedback from my managers when I do a good job and I'm trusted to do jobs on my own such as working a delivery
The programme is fairly well organised; once a month I am visited by my assessor who will observe me in my workplace to see if I have completed certain things that my qualification requires. I also go to college once a month to sit an exam which is based on the retail work that I do in store.
I get a lot of support off my training provider as I get visited once a month at my workplace and receive a lot of help in terms of the exams that I take in regards to learning what I need to know. My assessor also provided me with her phone number, just so that if any problems arise or if I had any queries, I'd be able to contact her easily.
I receive quite a lot of support from my employer; I am frequently given feedback from my managers, and I can always ask them questions if I don't know or understand something. My team are all very friendly and are happy to support me when necessary.
I think I get paid really well for an apprentice. My travel costs are always easily covered, and I have a good amount of money to be spent on social costs.
I've been invited to a number of nights out with colleagues and to Christmas events
Yes
It's a well supported programme with great opportunities. The job is well paid, everyone who I've worked with is friendly, and it's a great learning opportunity.
Research the company beforehand, and make sure to have a positive hard-working attitude
