I work as a Security Engineer in a Security Practice team responsible for multiple regions within Europe. My primary focus is web application security, ensuring the protection of all our websites and promoting secure coding practices among development teams in my domain.
I have mostly learn new skills covering both business and technical elements. In terms of business, I have gained valuable experience in organising meetings and delivering presentations to different areas of the company. Additionally, I have also receive a lot of coaching on various security tools.
I really enjoy my program because it lets me work on various skills that are crucial for the industry I want to be in. Even when I face challenges, I see them as part of the job and they help me grow and improve myself.
The organisation and structure of the program can vary depending on the placement. Fortunately, in my case, I am in a well-structured program as I hold a permanent position within a team. I receive extensive support, including a training schedule designed to fully onboard me as a security engineer, along with regular review sessions.
My employer gives me a lot of support by scheduling regular meetings to check in on my progress with work and school They take a vested interest in ensuring that I can meet my KSBs and gather evidence for my project.
My training provider offers support in terms of learning content and holds fairly frequent meetings. However, at times, the specifics of my project is unclear. Nevertheless, the quality of teaching has been good and has prepared me well for my exams.
Understanding computer networks is fundamental to understanding how the internet works and the ability to delve deeply into this subject is invaluable to me in my work. This knowledge aligns perfectly with my day-to-day activities and provides a solid foundation for tackling complex tasks at work.
There are several channels (on Microsoft Teams) catering to different interests, including fantasy football, a gamer's network, and even Zumba classes. When you join these activities, colleagues are friendly and inclusive, ensuring that there is something for everyone.

There is a good balance between nurturing talent, ensuring that everyone has opportunities to learn and grow, regardless of their experience level, and pushing individuals to reach their full potential. The work culture here is unique and laid-back and I genuinely appreciate the flexibility I have in my work, as it motivates me to actively pursue my goals.
