I look and manage costs of construction projects with mace in and around heathrow and in my day to day job role i manage certain packages, such as logistics and scaffolding, and manage their budgets and forecasted spend from the start on site to the end target date of the project
I have learnt diffrerent systems of work and ways to go about things. here at heathrow it is very process driven, everything has to be in order so i have had to adapt to that way of working. As well as this, just being able to read drawings and see what has been priced/paid for.
I enjoy the apprenticeship programme, it is very flexible in areas you can progress into and where you can go with it. There is training alongside our day to day job and uni which is good to learn extra skills and adapt them into my every day job. all my collegues are supportive too
At the beginning of the academic year, when we first started, we were given a timetable of all the upcoming training days and times so we were able to add this into the diary and send to the appropriate people in our team so they would know when we were out of work.
I receive support form a range of people. Mace as an employer are very flexible and willing to help out when time are tough or if you are in need of a little assistance. my line manager is supportive and will congratulate you in areas you have done well in
London South bank University are okay at giving support when need be. They are willing to provide it but it can often fall though. It is not very orgainsed, the system of work could be better when giving out results or sending us information as it can often be missed
at london south bank university, we learn a variety of modules, inculding construction technology and materials, law and construction practice. due to all the surveying students learning the same things in the first few years, some things apply more day to day to some people. i have not used a lot of things i have learnt in uni in my job
my work place often hold work events to get to meet other people in the company or suppliers, and this can take place in differnet areas but mainly in and around where my office is based. we also hold half year sessions, looking at the overall progress of the avaition unit
Yes
Mace are a good employer if you would like to have a board range of knowlege and expand your interests in the construciton industry. you will always be looked after here at mace as there is a great range of people from all ages and backgorunds and a very good way of working.
A tip i would give to others appling to mace is always have a smile on your face and be confindent. as well as this, refer back to past background knowledge and experiecne and show how you can incorporate that in your day to day work life in the future
