I currently work in the Live Services department of Capgemini HMRC Account, specifically within the ExCITE team. It's a varied role which includes troubleshooting live issues, system maintenance in the form of patches and housekeeping, and continual service improvement by way of managing system settings, controlling service flow, and applying logic with deliverable applications where applicable.
Since I've started with Capgemini, I've learned many new, and built upon many existing skills. The apprenticeship and the role I'm undertaking requires a varied skillset of technical knowledge including several programming languages, such as Java and Python, database knowledge including data modelling, SQL, and PL/SQL and knowledge of various business processes such as project management, testing/development life cycle, and the Agile way of working.
With the very growing and evolving IT industry there are always new skills to learn and build upon, and the fast paced technology driven environment insures no role has the chance to stagnate. Capgemini has funded any and all training that has been required to carry out my work and the chance to learn so many new things has really impacted me in a positive way.
Given the size of Capgemini it's easy sometimes to feel like a very small cog in an enormous mechanism. That being said it must be noted that every effort has been made to recognise indivual successes and insure that people are all treated as individuals. Given the size of the company and sheer number of employees all across the country, I'm very pleased with the effort made to make everyone feel valued.
The apprenticeship with Capgemini is an ever evolving program, and the small instances in which I don't feel the organisation and/or structure has been up to par have been quickly rectified to better suit the apprentice and company needs. The apprenticeship is still in its infancy, and I've no doubt there's plenty of room to improve, but by listening to the apprentices and to the suggestions of those involved, which the GAP management team always do, I feel they're well equipped to keep the standard of the program high and to continue to better it as time goes on.
My training provider has been very supportive and helpful with regards to the workload required to carry out my apprenticeship. He visists regularly and promptly answers and all queries I have.
My employers has been extremely supportive from the startm ensuring I've been sufficiently trained for any task required of me and being understanding and accomodating the workload required for the apprenticeship.
Capgemini has been very generous with the salary they're paying their apprentices, and I have no complaints.
Capgemini is very involved witn various charities which many of take part in if we so choose. As well as this the GAP program is often collaborating with outide companies to provide various opportunities for the apprentices to get involved with.
Yes
For anyone who is looking to break into the IT industry, I would highly recommend Capgemini for the extremely high level of training and support the apprentices are provided, as well as the job security that comes with gaining experience with such a prestigious company.
It's not easy, but it wouldn't be worth it if it was. The role and the apprenticeship is a challenge, but that makes it all the more worth it to complete it and know that you are capable and can go far.
