Travelling from house to house repairing and fitting boilers and heating systems. We also do plumbing and pipe work. We got radiators and other gas appliances in the house hold. We also do other small task to help customers like fitting toilet seats and fixing anything we can to help them.
I was new to gas engineering before I joined horizon heating and technology so every skill I have learnt is 100% new. I’ve learnt how to do has safety checks, how to measure gas rates how to purge and how to fit and bled radiators. I am also still learning.
I really enjoy the program I am currently on. It’s i fun and interesting hands on work, and I get a kick out of helping people and helping to solve their problems. I also enjoy working with the people I work with as we all get on pretty well.
The programme is structured very well. In college we have set units and tests at the end of each unit. We have designated time through out the days to complete practical work and theory. With introduction days through out the year to help us before we start each and every new unit.
I receive good support from my employer he teaches me a lot and has been trying to arrange new travel plans to make sure it is easier for me to get to the jobs each day as sometimes it is pretty difficult because I do not driver as of currently.
When working towards my qualification I receive massive amounts of support from all of the training providers. They have offered extra time in the training centre to all of us incase any of us feel like we need it or if we feel like we are falling slightly behind where we should be .
The qualification Definelty helps me to perform better in my role because everything we do in the training centre is 100% applicable to what we do Jen we are out working in peoples houses. The training centre helps us to iron out the specifics and make sure we are on the ball.
The company I work for is pretty small so there is not many social activities for me to get involved in. However the people I work with are all great and support me daily while at work. I also get on with them all very well so there is nothing to worry about .
Yes
I have learnt a lot already in the 6 months I have been there. The team is great. And the quality of work we provide is really good with every customer I’ve seen being thankful and happy with the service we have provided for them. 10/10 would recommend
Don’t worry, be confident and go for it. Everybody starts in the same position somewhat with no experience and not knowing what they’re getting into. So make sure to try your hardest and trust the process because eventually you’ll be in a better position and enjoying what you do.
