I was given an insight into working as a solicitor within an international commercial law firm. I took part in activities to gain an understanding of the different roles that a solicitor may have, as well as the seeing just how many areas that are within law. This was with a number of different people, such as trainee solicitors. There was also a visit to Vodafone which made me understand what, being an in house lawyer, involves. During the week, I was given a task with my group to make a presentation about starting a business and dealing with the problems that may ensue along the way.
I developed confidence during the week, with the ability to speak up more and give my own input into group situations, which helped with my teamwork skills.
I really enjoyed the week, as it provided me with the chance to work in a group with people that I was not familiar with. Also, the feel and look of the law firm has really inspired me to work as hard as I can, in order to, hopefully, work somewhere like Hogan Lovells in the future. Along with the professional feel of the law firm, I enjoyed being given tasks and understanding what the day-to-day work entails.
Everyone at Hogan Lovells made me feel incredibly welcome, throughout the week, in all aspects of the work placement and it was great to have been given email addresses of the lawyers, for future queries and advice.
The entire programme was very well structured and organised. The week had the perfect amount of activities; in that it wasn't overwhelming, but at the same time, it wasn't boring.
There was always someone available to provide us with great activities
The support during the week was great.
I did not receive a salary; aside from my daily travel being reimbursed.
I did not have a job at Hogan Lovells, as this was just a temporary work placement.
Yes
There is really nothing I can fault about Hogan Lovells.
