My role is that of a Pension Officer in the NHS. The day-to-day involves communication with members, generating estimates and benefits statements, managing member records, processing retirement applications and assisting the Pension Manger with meeting legal and regulatory requirements/deadlines.
I developed my existing skills via the apprenticeship, improving my management and organisation for both short term and long term projects, prioritisation and more effective/efficient communication.
The programme had some significant issues with a break in tutor due to one leaving and another not being assigned till later. The section carried out by the CIPP did not seem well planned with the learners experience seeming secondary. Growth company tutors were effective and adaptable.
Individual Tutor organisation and the structure provided by them was good and effective. The organisation of the CIPP and in assigning me a new tutor was underwhelming.
My employer was exceptional with allotting study time and allowing for set periods dedicated to the apprenticeship in work time. My mentor was always available to offer advice and to check over work before submission as well as to act as a sounding board to ensure I understood everything correctly.
The Growth company Tutors were very supportive and showed concern for my wellbeing as well as my progression. They were happy to adapt and to check submissions multiple times in order to facilitate improvement.
The qualification allowed me to learn of the wider pension work and different schemes, as well as, introducing me to additional legislation and standardised processes. This information has already lead to the exploration of current charters and caused changes within my office to better meet our requirements.
Team meet ups outside of work and the starting of a office library for the sharing of books.

The Tutors at the Growth Company go out of their way to help their apprentices improve and adapt. They take into account the individuals learning requirements and styles, adapting to the person and find the best way to ensure the individual meets their requirements while performing to their best.
Ensure you discuss your learning expectations and preferred methods at the first meeting with the tutor. Make sure you are both on the same starting point so as to limit unexpected obstacles.
