civil engineering apprentice both on site and office based engineering works including surveying, work package plan and risk assessment/method statement production, designing and general site duties. my interactions internally vary daily from site operatives, design teams, SHE officers, quantity surveyors, engineers to project managers. external interactions include contractors (operatives, design, project managers) also educational figures (tutors), other apprentices working in different sectors and business' residents and companies applicable to site works.
since staring my apprenticeship in relatively short period I've accumulated a number of qualifications such as PTS, CSCS, level 1 OLE, RD8000 and genny trained, as well as being on my way to achieving level 3 btec national diploma in civil engineering and the built environment as well as NVQ level 3. my time here has also given me a broad understanding of working in an engineering environment as well as cooperating with other companies through designing and production processes.
i thoroughly enjoy my role with in the company and project and all aspects involved from manual work on site to office work. i also enjoy the environment of the work place as well as the strong work ethic shared by all. overall my apprenticeship surpassed my expectations anticipated from undergoing work experience in other companies its clear to me this is the environment i could excel in thanks to the companies supporting attitude for me to grow and increase my abilities with the company.
after such a short period of time in the company i feel like they have provided the training and facilities allowing me to become a confident member assisting in numerous parts of such a large scale project allowing me to genuinely be needed within my role.
the company has consistently maintained a structured environment from start to finish not only to me individually as a new apprentice but its a mentality shared by all staff I've interacted with.
i receive a consistent level of support in both college and work, i know if ever i need assistance its available and any issues that occur can be talked through and a resolution met
again like my training provider support is constantly available from multiple members of staff throughout the company, its always been enforced that if i need assistance either in or out of work its available.
comparing my wage to the wages of friends in similar apprenticeships with other companies i feel the wage is a great starting point with the possibility of progressing. also should i need to travel outside of the office for work expenses are reimbursed which is something not many companies provide to my level.
there are constantly updates and events being organised all of which are generally to raise money for charity, there is always a variety of activities to suit a vast variety of interests relevant to both work and personal life.
Yes
its a great company to work for allowing possibility of progression with any necessary support to go as far as you possibly can.
if your a driven determined individual with a want to progress to the best you possibly can Costain will assist you with this in training, qualifications and opportunity for progression throughout the company.
