  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • My work experience at Pearson Plc involved helping out my mentor who is based in the apprenticeship team with her daily tasks; this could be putting together spreadsheets with the data of apprentices or attending meetings and giving my insight and thought on issues that the team is trying to overcome. I also had times booked with different members of the company in different areas of my interest in finance to help me with my future career goals.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • I developed my time management and planning as I had to plan my route to the office and get in on time every day which I did perfectly. I also developed my communication skills as the role involved always having to communicate with others in a team to finish tasks. I also learnt about lots of normal business practices in a FTSE 100 firm and the consistency needed to be producing at a high output.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I really enjoyed my work experience placement at Pearson plc as there is a very friendly environment and culture where I never felt afraid to ask for help if I needed anything. I also really enjoyed having conversations with different people across the firm as I discovered there is so much that a FTSE 100 firm does so there are job roles in my area of interest accounting in a firm like this.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • My work experience was very well organised, I was given a time table and plan of my week on my first day which gave a overview of what I would be doing all week. Then I also used Microsoft teams to add meetings to my calendar where opportunities came up across the week.

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • I learnt lots about the company culture at Pearson plc from my week in their strand office. It is a very welcoming relaxed and friendly culture within the company and it would be amazing to work here. There is a clear support network you can use if you have any issues and the hot desk approach in the office encourages conversation between people from different teams you usually wouldn't speak go.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • My work experience at Pearson plc involved having conversations with people within the finance department of the company. These people reinforced my current career path as they shared similar ones where they gained their chartered status then from there I can really go anywhere. That could be continuing in a firm like Pearson plc then decide to go into a big 4 firm like PwC.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • I was not paid for my work experience placement at Pearson plc for the week, however when we went out of the office for lunches my costs were covered by the firm and this meant I was not spending too much every day. I still had to pay travel expenses.

  • 8. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees?
  • There were lots of opportunities for networking at Pearson plc as every day I was having lots of meetings with different workers around the business from different areas of the company. I had conversations with people from treasury, procurement, admissions, hiring, data and it gave me a really well rounded view of the company

  • 9a. Would you recommend Pearson plc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would likely recommend Pearson plc to a friend as it is a very wide ranging company. They are FTSE 100 so they have branches of the business in many key areas of interest for people like law, finance, digital design, cyber security and also there core business of HR and education.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pearson plc?
  • I actually didn't apply for this role as I have a mentor who works at Pearson plc who organised my placement so I don't have much advice for others who would go about getting a placement at Pearson. The best thing I could advise would be emailing or calling HR as they manage on boarding so may be able to find somewhere for you.
