On a day to day basis I would be involved in the audit of several different companies in a variety of different industries with several different responsibilities. I would be in contact with several different third parties to get the information and documents needed to check the accuracy of the clients workings provided to us.
I have leant a variety of new skills both technical accounting skills due to areas which arose in clients and applying what I have learnt at university to real life clients. I also developed professional skills such as communicating effectively with clients and other third parties, teamwork and excel skills
I enjoy the mix of both a traditional university experience whilst studying but also gaining relevant practical wok experience through the flying start placements throughout the course. I believe this is a good mix to ensure we are gaining a good understanding of the technical aspects whist gaining real life experience in placement.
The programme has set times for placement depending on what university you go to which is good as you know you will be on placement the same time as your course however, the short semesters at university to make time for placements can be stressful and require a full commitment to the course.
We receive a lot of support from both PwC and university throughout the programme whilst at university you have academic advisors to help you with any questions and whilst on placement you have career coaches, buddies, programme organisers and flying start champions to help you with any questions you may have
We receive a lot of support from our training providers whilst at university we receive a lot of support from lecturers especially given the complexity of the qualifications to ensure we have a good understanding of the technical areas. We will also receive a lot of help from PwC during our final exams when we graduate
Whilst at university you gain a lot of technical understanding about the different areas of audit, accounting and finance which you can put into practice in real life client work whilst on placement and during placement you also get further training at the start and throughout to ensure you are always learning on the job
Whilst on placement there were a lot of social and networking opportunities to get involved in although we were only there for a couple of months, there were various socials for both team building but also raising money for charity, I believe there are also a number of sports teams and societies to get involved in as well
Yes
Whilst on placement and at university I have received a lot of support and I have really enjoyed my placement due to the wide variety of work you can get involved in along with the good support networks available to you, I always enjoyed going into the office due to the friendly staff
When applying to PwC it is important that you have the technical knowledge of accounting to be able to complete the work but it is also important to show how you would fit in as a person importantly showing your teamwork and communication skills as these are important on a daily basis
