  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Preparing fun and stimulating activities for children, preparing snack, taking children to the toilet, changing nappies, promoting hand washing, encouraging outdoor play, supervising lunchtimes, interacting with the children, discussing progress with parents, focus activities, register times, discussing the weather, days of the week and helping children develop their vocabulary further

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed some good time management skills and have learnt how to work well as a team, filling gaps and supporting staff who are struggling, not rigidly sticking to a rota but finishing jobs that need to be done. I have learnt how to be very enthusiastic and friendly

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme and love having meetings with my trainer assessor as I feel understood and my needs are catered for. However, although I understand it is important, I find it very tedious filling out the learning journal and scorecards as I feel I am just doing it for the sake of it

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is organised well and I am always made aware of what is expected of me, what tasks I am required to complete etc. However I wish I knew what percentage or stage I am expected to be at at each month so that I am aware of how well I am doing

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I do receive quite a lot of support from my employer for my apprenticeship and she facilitates my meetings well. The only thing is I wish she had processed the request for my apprenticeship sooner as I have been at my workplace since January but my apprenticeship start date is may which is very disappointing for me

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • She is honestly very helpful and always updates me to any changes or expectations. She sets very realistic targets for me and encourages me to get them done. She is very friendly and kind and makes me feel cared for. Overall my experience with her so far has been excellent.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Very well. My training provider provides many opportunities for visits and meetings with my trainer assessor as well as regular webinars so that learning is taking place. My training provider provides lots of new learning opportunities, reminders to do safeguarding courses etc which helps me to complete them faster so that I can move on to the next task

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • All staff go out to eat every few months where we discuss things that are not work related and is a good opportunity to socialise. Apart from that we don't usually meet outside of work hours unless we have training from our employer, where we get a chance to sit together and discuss opinions and experiences too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Realise to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Realise seems to be a very organised platform which allows learners to feel in control of their learning and takes the stress off having to find out information about the course yourself. Also everything is online rather than in files which makes things very easy to keep track of as I can log onto Onefile easily from any device.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Realise?
  • Keep doing what you're doing and making life easy for students. Maybe consider allowing students who wish to complete the course faster opportunity and help to do so, so that all practical work is done and they can then just focus on getting hours completed. Also maybe a rough guide to how much progress should have been made at this point. Would also love if afternoon webinars were finished earlier in the day i.e. before 3pm.
