I am an apprentice enginner for the Costain Group. My job role involves setting out on site,
I have learned a lot about the construction industry from health and safety awareness to setting out on site and the theories behind the works that are carried out.
I enjoy my programme as it is in a friendly work environment where everyone gets along. If i have any queries or problems there are a number of people i can speak to about rectifying them.
I feel part of the team when in the work environment and try me best to meet the needs of the company and project.
My programme is very well organised, i am informed of what is expected from me and try to meet any deadlines or tasks given to me.
I recieve a lot of support from my line manager and at college from my tutor, also my area co-ordinator is very helpful with any questions or quieries i have. I feel my apprenticeship is going well and hope to achieve the qualifications i am sitting.
I recieve all the support i need from my employer as my company is quite a large firm there are many people willing to help out and guide me in the correct direction if i am unsure about any information or tasks given.
My slalry is quite low which is expected as i am only in my first year of my apprenticehsip. I hope to gain my qualifications and earn a salary increase as i progress in my career. I get fuel allowances which covers my fuel to and from college which is located in St Helens Liverpool.
There are not many opportunies in my area outside of work, i managed to get my apprenticeship with costain through doing a 5 week voluntary trial through the job centre, from her i got offered an apprenticeshiop and look forward to achieving my qualifications.
Yes
Costain are a major firm who look out for their employees and give job security within the group. They also have allowances for any works that is away from home and fuel allowances which has a big effect on monthly salaries.
Tips and advice i would give for joining Cstain would be to make it clear you are keen to learn an occupation. Also be kind and polite to all work colleagues.
