  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I began my Health and Social Care NVQ level 3 apprenticeship in January 2023 and am now just over halfway through. I am loving it and feel like having made good progress, and it's making me feel more competent and confident in my profession. This is in addition to my work, and I get 1-2-1 sessions with my TDO every 3-4 weeks. There is also help available whenever I need it. My main complaint is that I lack enough time to pursue research and off-the-job training.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I now have more in-depth understanding in areas like safeguarding and person-centered care. I have additionally learned more about legislation and advice in the field of health and social care. Any inquiries I have, I have received additional comprehension in the future. My TDO has also been helpful.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am interested in learning more about health and social care. As previously said, I have some difficulty staying on track with my off the job training and balancing this with work and home life. Some units are more in depth than others, which are, of course, more challenging sometimes .

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well-organized and structured, and I know which unit I will be assigned to next. My TDO has kept me updated on what is expected in the next session and any further assistance that I may require. Seeing all of the units can be intimidating, but I now have a better grasp.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been really supportive, and my team leader has also asked me how my NVQ is doing at each supervision. My employer also provides me with ample opportunities to complete my NVQ and any necessary research. They seem to be really supportive of my development, which is quite useful.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training and development officer is extremely helpful and supportive. Whenever I have had a question, I have received a prompt response, and the one-to-one sessions have been constant and beneficial. I am also becoming more comfortable usingĀ One file, and it's no longer as intimidating as it was at first.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Obtaining a level 3 in Health and Social Care will allow me to become more competent in my profession and gain a better understanding of themes such as safeguarding. It helps to have the qualification and training to back up my experience in my role, and it enables me to gain confidence.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am not aware of any extra curricular activities available at work, though I would expect my company to assist with these. There is generally training on many topics related to our work, such as county lines, and there are also essential working sessions on various subjects every week on.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Safe Haven Accommodation to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • So far, I have had a good time with Safe Haven Accommodation. It's also useful now that I am on a permanent contract and have that stability. Of course, there are difficult times, but there are also rewarding times when you notice a positive shift in a young person. My boss has also been helpful.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Safe Haven Accommodation?
  • Personal qualities such as being nice, supportive, a good listener, and communicator, in my opinion, are more important. It is essential to be able to establish rapport and trust with a young person, as well as to solve problems on your own initiative. There is also 24/7 support for any difficulty, day or night.
