My apprenticeship is a Higher Technical and is a 2 year course. On a day to day basis we test various different lines in Trostre to make sure the levels of chemicals aren’t too high or low. We test for Iron, Chrome, Lead, Tin and potassium and various other chemicals.
I’ve developed various new skills whilst starting this apprenticeship. I’ve learnt how to follow instructions correctly from my colleagues on how to conduct test properly. I’ve increased my confidence by communicating with my department on any problems or concerns I may have. I’ve learnt how to test for various chemicals on various machines that we use in the lab.
So far I’m really enjoying my apprenticeship, it’s interesting to learn new skills and improving my knowledge further as well by attending college once a week to learn new skills and develop me knowledge. I’m enjoying meeting new people such as my colleagues and working with them in the lab.
I feel that my programme is very organised as I receive clear instructions on what’s happening inside the work and with my college I have frequent updates from my colleague and college tutors. I also now when my supervisor from college needs to see me for 6 weeks progress review and we communicate effectively to give a correct date and time for her to see me in the workplace.
I receive good support from my employer . Whether it’s a small task or college work my colleague will always help me in any way. Whilst in the lab they support me and supervise me doing my tests correctly in the lab and they always mention what I can improve on next time.
I receive a lot of help from my training provider for my college work. We message frequently for her to see how I’m getting on with the work. She sends me frequent feedback in my work for me to work on to improve it. In Trostre I also receive good support from my trainers in the lab as well.
I feel that my qualification helps me to perform better in my role as I complete tasks associated with my lab therefore I have more knowledge of my lab and any risk that are present. I also have information from my training provider that helps me in my role as well in the lab.
For my first week in TATA I received a day of activities to meet everybody that has managed to get an apprenticeship. This was good as we all got familiar with other people and their apprenticeship and what they will be doing. These activities were working as part of a team to complete various tasks.
