I am a rail engineer apprentice, my day involves going out onto track with different teams in order to gain a better understanding of the railway infrastructure.
I have learnt some new skills and feel lot more confident. However I still feel I have lots to learn. I learn a lot as part of my course which helps me in the practical environment.
I enjoy the job / programme and it is a great opportunity for me as I feel the rail industry is a sector with a bright future. The programme is difficult at times as there is a lot of coursework to complete as well as working full time but it is manageable.
I feel valued and my manager is good when it comes to showing an interest in my development. I don’t always work with my company as am on placements.
The training I receive as part of my course is very good. The instructors are knowledgeable and always do their best. I have worked with another company recently and they have proved difficult to work with at times as they have not had the variation of work I need.
My training provider is very good. I have learnt a lot with them and this will allow me to do my job efficiently and safely in the future.
Costain are very good when it comes to supporting me. I am doing various placements with different teams, this has been challenging at times. My manager and apprenticeship manager are always on hand if I need them.
I am content with my salary. I get an annual pay rise and when I finish my course it should increase.

The company has great people working for them, the company is working on some of the biggest jobs in the country. This makes me feel secure and positive about working for them.
I would research the company and be sure to look at different sectors as there is a lot to choose from, all with different advantages.
