Gathering, cleaning and providing analysis to business performance metrics. Blending multiple data sources using ETL functions and visualising data through a multitude of tools in order to convey key insights in an understandable format. Delivering these key insights to stakeholders throughout the business through written and verbal communication.
I have learnt about the data lifecycle, importance of data governance and how both good and bad data can impact business critical decisions and job satisfaction throughout the business. I've learnt cleansing techniques, data infrastructure and achieved certified skills in MOS Excel, Azure and honed other skills relevant to the role.
I enjoyed it a lot as the training was interesting and engaging. My coach encouraged open discussion on topics which helped me both understand the topic of discussion, and to elaborate on it further to understand how it affects others and not just my role.
The programme was structured well, however some key topics could've been covered sooner such as Data Protection and Security. Although this is all policies and processes, it's an important aspect to know when working with and having access to a lot of business data that could be sensitive information.
I received a lot of support including time for personal development in both data skills and personable skills. I had time to complete my apprenticeship work alongside my job role and this included support with questions and shadowing opportunities in different areas.
I received plenty of support when asked for, including links to extra resources, and the opportunity to complete other certifications with no extra cost to myself. This allowed me to expand further than what is covered in the curriculum of the apprenticeship and push my expertise further.
The qualification has helped me understand the foundations of big data and the data sector. It's allowed me to move forward into planning a new role within the business I work for to develop my own knowledge and skills in Data Governance and Infrastructure to collaborate with stakeholders and improve business systems.
There are opportunities however it's not something I have taken advantage of too much. Aside from company events.
Yes
Baltic Apprenticeships have given me the chance to move into a career that is growing within the UK and is a necessary role in any business. This means I have a long term job opportunity regardless of where I work.
Always look to make yourself new opportunities and don't be afraid to ask questions. Even when there aren't clear paths for development, it's good to talk about what you are interested in and what that could bring to the table. This has helped me create my own development path and a new role within the business which I am happy with.
