  • Scanning and uploading construction documentation, meeting room management, stationery management, planning engagement tours/site visits, creating posters for office events, collating health and safety data, managing traffic management data

  • Office skills incl. scanning, database systems, laminating, MS Office. Developed skills in construction including health and safety, project management and community relations. Lots of internal and external courses available to learn new skills

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Learned lots of valuable skills and gained a lot of experience, could be better in terms of exploring new areas, nurturing areas that interest the apprentice. Good engagement between central apprenticeship team and the apprentice

  • Week is well structured, time allowed to complete apprenticeship work, however can often find myself bored.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Regular check ups, easy to ask questions, everyone is approachable. Lots of opportunities presented and available to the apprentice.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • College are very helpful, very experienced tutors in the sector, always available for support, interesting sessions that are relevant and can be applied to a variety of workplaces. I feel prepared for my EPA

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Topics covered are applicable in the workplace, really helps you to 'learn on the job', sparks curiosity and gives the theoretical understanding to what is put into practice in the workplace

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a socials group which has regular outings (walks, drinks, meals). There is a walking group, quiz team and a wellbeing committee which is open to suggestions and regularly plans events in the office

  • Yes

  • Great development opportunities, good career progression, interesting projects around the UK, approachable team and friendly atmosphere


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Costain?
  • If you have an interest in construction, it's a great company that allows you to branch off into many different areas. There are plenty of opportunities and the company is invested in your development
