Each day I work on supporting a lead PM on larger projects and running my own smaller projects. This could include attending site for scoping visits, handovers or interim visits or taking a more virtual role and attending meetings, hosting meetings, doing more admin sides to the jobs and doing what is required delivering projects. Each day I work from 8:30 until 5pm and usually I can get all my work done within these hours as Arcadis are great at managing individuals work loads and putting people first. As my apprenticeship has progressed I have been given the option for more responsibility on projects but at the start Arcadis are aware that this is all new for the individual and ease you into taking up responsibility.
I have developed skills within the workplace such as leadership and confidence, this has come from taking responsibility with opportunities provided to me. I have developed further with my teamwork skills and what it takes to build a team and maintain connectivity when members do not communicate as part of work. I have also developed decision making which has come with confidence also.
I love the work life balance achievable with the degree apprenticeship. Having the pleasure of attending work and feeling like you are achieving and working towards being better brings great satisfaction. To then have the time to study on a Friday and learn more about the industry also brings appreciation to the role.
The programme is structured well. There could be more resources sent to the apprentices as for the timeline of the apprenticeships and what is required at different stages but this isn't a huge issue and the careers team are always willing to help when asked,
I always receive support. The line manager system is amazing that Arcadis have in place. As well as the additional buddy that you can talk to if you'd rather do that than speak to your line manager. Everyone within the team is always supportive and you will never be turned away if you are in need of some support.
The qualifications seem to be more independent but you are always supported if you do request and action for help
Not all links from the course to the job as the projects we take on are specific to the role but it is great to have a wider knowledge range to set you up for future possibilities as all the learning is relevant to the industry.
So many social net working events that allow you to get to know your team! These are decided by the group and usually happen on an evening. The leeds office also has fitness classes on a lunch time that are free to use!
Yes
Arcadis is an innovative people first company that care about the wellbeing of its employees. Its modern workplace allows a great work life balance and I have not had one day unhappy at work in the time I have been here.
I would always say put your best self forward, ask lots of questions as you can never have all the information. Embrace the application process as it has lots of fun steps and gives you a taster of what working with arcadis will be like. And, never give up, you're always going to have support to continue to grow.
