Managing costs on a construction project, negotiation, meeting with clients, reporting margin etc. I am currently running approximately £2m worth of projects on my own and assisting on a further £40m. This increase in responsibility has developed my ability in all aspects of quantity surveying and has prepared me fore the future.
Continually improving all aspects of the job, learning new things not only at college but whilst working. Really supportive team who are eager to aid my development. Been enrolled on specific training courses at work which gave me insight into different aspects and tips on how to do my job well.
Highly enjoy my programme, have a great cohort of apprentices and a fast paced, enjoyable work environment. Been placed on a team who actively look for my development and are always in hand to assist should it be required. Really enjoy having some independence but also knowing people are ready to help.
Highly organised, responsibilities continually increased as and when deemed ready. Clear progression programme from start to end of the apprenticeship and beyond. Many apprentices working who can be spoken to and guide you to develop your career in the best way. College provide clear structure and organisation with the teaching.
Masses, Line manager is regularly updated on any areas i need further development and he then seeks out new tasks for me to tick off these competencies. Also have regular checkups on my progress to charter ship which is very useful as it gives me a clear thing to work towards.
Have a set amount of time to complete tasks based on required knowledge, skills and behaviours which are required to sign off the apprenticeship. Lecturers always on hand to answer questions and can be contacted via email when not at college. Also provide useful revision sessions before exams which really help.
Direct link between role and qualification which helps to not only understand the role I am currently doing but gives competency for future tasks on differing contracts. For example I work on NEC contracts but have an understanding of both NEC and JCT as a result of the modules undertaken.
Weekly football sessions are held on a Wednesday and open for all to attend. There is also semi-frequent social events organised and sent out via email. My team also organises smaller gatehrings such as after work drinks or a lunch in the office which is a nice way to break up the day.

The workplace atmosphere is the primary reason, at BAM you really feel valued and that senior leaders are interested in developing you. The cohort of apprentices are great and the learning provided from LCB is top tier. BAM gives you the chance to work on fascinating projects and be part of schemes that really make a difference.
Know the company before interview, learning a few bits of information to drop in can really go a long way. Make sure you are confident in yourself as if you are given an interview they have seen something in you and it is your job to go and highlight this.
