My role is that of a general finance apprentice. On a daily basis, I prepare journals and balance sheet reconciliations, distribute reports to purchase requisitioners, and provide support and guidance for AP queries when needed.
Before starting the apprenticeship, I had some experience in Finance, however this was just general knowledge. I have improved my Excel and problem solving skills significantly and now have a good working knowledge of the accounting process.
Extremely. I moved into this field following a career change and I could not be happier with the choice. I am excited to go to work each day and I genuinely enjoy all of the tasks that I do.
Extremely. I have great guidance from college and the workplace about the programme. It is split into four separate modules, each being assessed separately. I am able to map my progress of this with work I am doing in the workplace.
My employer is always on hand to answer questions and queries I have and is extremely supportive if I need extra help or support.
The training provider is extremely supportive in this regard. I have a plethora of resources which support and guide my learning, and they are always on hand to discuss questions and concerns.
Extremely. The material covered in the college portion on the course is directly applicable in the workplace. We are also encouraged to produce learning journals to reflect on this which helps me to apply the skills learned. As a result, I have found that my working skills and knowledge have increased dramatically since starting the course.
My training provider has sports teams and social societies which I can get involved with and my workplace has regular social events between my direct team and the wider workplace.
Yes
Cummins is an extremely supportive employer and they encourage staff across all departments to be open to collaborative working. I have never had such a supportive workplace where I don't feel scared to raise questions or concerns.
Research the company well. Those who work here are passionate about the work they do and so are more likely to respond well to a candidate who is also interested in the work they do.
