I am a Trainee Civil Engineer, site based i undertake activities daily such as setting out and surveying, quality checks, writing RAMS, writing permits, tracking progress and using CAD software.
i have considerably developed management skills in the industry. Improved my communication with co workers along with conducting STEM school events such as assemblies speaking in front of a crowd.
I enjoy how the programme is set out, with the 9 week block for level 4 and 1 week blocks for degree level. this makes the social side working and studying with other like minded people enjoyable. there are also opportunities and events for BAM apprentices to attend.
the structure is good with a suitable balance between working on site and education in college/Uni. Also the ability to get proffessional membership during the programme is brilliant.
The is plenty of support from the site team, line managers and project managers. the apprenticeship team have improved and now a brilliant team who do there best to help in any situation
LCB are really good at supporting during studies both lecturers and managers are willing to help all the time, even if its outside of their day to day
All KSBs have helped me improve on site day to day. The Level 4 and now L6 progamme along with my EngTech have progressed me to carry out my role in a professional manor
Volunteering days are used to help the local community where possible or wider community dependent on the project location. During the l4 we had freindly competition such as a mini table tennis tournament. Team building activities including Karting were also good experience.
Yes
BAM is a large construction company but make everyone feel at home due to the way the Apprenticeship schemes are set up. The safety culture and approach to mental wellbeing couldn't be better. there are many oppotunities at BAM including working on a wide range of projects across the country .
Make sure you do the research into the company including the values and sustainability policy. Try to gain some on site experience before applying even if its just a 1 week experience. Make sure you have a rough career plan and show that you are willing to get involved with any opportunities that come your way.
