My role is the business administration apprentice, which entails numerous day-to-day activities with some of them being raising orders for others within my department, receiving these orders and also gaining quotes for works. I also do a lot of working helping with events taking place on site.
I have gained new skills as prior to my apprenticeship I had limited knowledge of excel but was sent of a Microsoft packages training course to develop my knowledge and I have also learnt whilst completing my daily tasks.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my program as I have learnt a variety of new skills and help with numerous activities within my department as well as helping others. My college course has also been enjoyable and I have been aided along the way by college and my employers.
My program has been very well structured as my college days are linked to the work that I have been completing in the workplace and the order of tasks that are set at college flow from one to another which makes it very easy to understand the content.
I have received significant support as I have been allocated time to complete numerous training courses which have provided me with a better understating of the work that takes place in my department but I have also regularly been checked on in terms of my college work.
At college, I receive a lot of help and guidance as we have our tutor but also our apprenticeship skills support who would come out to my workplace every 3 months to check that I am progressing in the workplace and if there is anything that they could help with.
As part of my qualification I have needed to complete a project at work which instills change which has allowed me to perform better as I have been able to develop my knowledge of certain tasks within my department as well as complete new tasks.
Cummins aim to provide online/virtual networking events for apprentices so that they can build relationships with other apprentices on site and share their experiences of the workplace. They also set up apprentice breakfasts where you will speak with the plant manager and discuss your role.
Yes
I would highly recommend Cummins to a friend as it has allowed me to gain new skills and develop a better understanding of what I would like to do in the future, whilst being encouraged to progress in my career.
If you are currently unsure as to what job route you would like to take and see an apprenticeship at Cummins that you like the sound of, go for it as you will not regret it and you will have a better idea of your goals for the future.
