My role as a project management assistant is to support the project managers I work with while they support me to become a project manager providing me with skills that will allow me to develop in the workplace to become a project manager. My day-to-day responsibilities are to communicate with clients and my team and manage workstreams such as project reports and programme timelines to ensure the agreed time and quality of the project are being met.
My apprenticeship with Mace allows me to enhance my existing skills through communicating with my internal team as well as external clients and how communication should be adapted for an audience. I have developed new knowledge and skills through my studies in Construction management as well as in my day-to-day role and so I am constantly developing and enhancing my skills.
I enjoy my project management degree apprenticeship with Mace due to the variety of experience that can be gained. Each week can vary between site visits, client meetings, and office work as well as University studies. This level of variety helps gain a real understanding of your project and gain skills that will support your progression towards your ambitions.
My programme is well structured with development training sessions being provided regularly to ensure I gain technical training in my job role. The university side of the programme is very well structured each week with webinars to learn and the opputnity to apply the learning though activities provides.
Mace provides a high level of support within the office, from your team, The Emerging Talent team as well as other cohort apprentices. Mace supports and encourage the learning of apprentices through the degree and development training sessions which then you are supported to apply in your day-to-day role. Mace also have schemes for apprentices to feel support such as the buddy scheme so you always have someone if you have any questions and within my project I had a project buddy who was another person I could always go to who had been in my position before.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider as I have regular reviews where my performance is discussed and anything I could work towards to enhance the development of my qualifications.
I feel that my training provider helps me to perform better in my role by teaching me the knowledge, skills, and behaviors to enhance the performance in my role and work towards my qualification.
The office that I work in which is the Birmingham office always has extracurricular activities on to encourage everyone to socialise. In the office they're are regular health and well being talks which encourage staff to move away get away from their desk and discuss important topics. The office manager sets up fun activities such as team-building tasks to enhance thinking and communication. There are also social events that are held to encourage networking, building professional relationships as well getting to know people in the office.

I would encourage others who are thinking about an apprenticeship at Mace because while you are earning while you learn the level of experience and knowledge you gain through studies and your day-to-day role provides a great opportunity for career development getting hands on experience and skills to progress in your career.
The advice I would give to other apprentices applying to Mace is to understand the company and the values and projects they get involved with. If you do get the apprenticeship network with others joining to make you feel more comfortable in your role when you start and good luck with your application!
