  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is being a UX designer, working on projects to help clients work improve both internal and external facing customer platforms. My role involves using design thinking techniques to break down client problems, completing research to understand user problems and designing wireframes for development.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since being an apprentice, I have developed skills in UX design, problem solving, design software such as Figma, client conversations, AI, designing for accessibility etc

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the work I do and the real world impact of it, but it does come with stress of being in an important role whilst still learning. The uni course, I enjoy less as you don't get as much freedom as you do if you studied the degree full time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured as IBM provide their own training for apprentices delivered at different stages in the first 2 years.

  • Lots of support through other apprentices that have previously been on the programme.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • 6 weeks a year I receive support and education from my training provider as well as quarterly check ins with my skills coach.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like I learn mostly through work from other people than through my training provider. MMU mostly tops up context to things I have already learnt.

  • Lots of extra curricular - communities of practices with similar roles, sports and recreation brgs, diversity brgs etc

  • Yes

  • Good community of young professionals that help you not feel alone in your apprenticeship journey.

  • Be yourself and be prepared to make mistakes
