My role is being a UX designer, working on projects to help clients work improve both internal and external facing customer platforms. My role involves using design thinking techniques to break down client problems, completing research to understand user problems and designing wireframes for development.
Since being an apprentice, I have developed skills in UX design, problem solving, design software such as Figma, client conversations, AI, designing for accessibility etc
I enjoy the work I do and the real world impact of it, but it does come with stress of being in an important role whilst still learning. The uni course, I enjoy less as you don't get as much freedom as you do if you studied the degree full time.
The programme is well structured as IBM provide their own training for apprentices delivered at different stages in the first 2 years.
Lots of support through other apprentices that have previously been on the programme.
6 weeks a year I receive support and education from my training provider as well as quarterly check ins with my skills coach.
I feel like I learn mostly through work from other people than through my training provider. MMU mostly tops up context to things I have already learnt.
Lots of extra curricular - communities of practices with similar roles, sports and recreation brgs, diversity brgs etc
Yes
Good community of young professionals that help you not feel alone in your apprenticeship journey.
Be yourself and be prepared to make mistakes
