  • My role is that of a Forest Manager. I assist in managing woodland and forestry operations such as timber harvesting and new woodland creation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have greatly developed my knowledge of forestry and forestry practices and gained a new skill in my use of mapping softwares such as QGIS. I have also learned how to work in a management role within forestry.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I greatly enjoy the work I do as a forester manager and have particularly enjoyed learning more about the industry.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme feels well organised, regular discussions with my line manager help keep my targets in view. The university side is well structured so far and it is clear what my assignments are and how to complete them.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I work with a very experienced and knowledgeable team who despite being incredibly busy, always make time to show me how to do something or how to work something out for myself.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have emailed my lecturers a few times about various issues on my assignments and they have always been quick to reply and provide assistance when needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the experience I am gaining from work is helping provide a great deal of context for my studies from University and vice Versa.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There have been a number of social events within the office such as a summer event and a Christmas night out. There have been a few professional networking events as well that I have been able to attend.

  • Enjoyable work place and feel well supported. If I have an issues or questions I know who to speak to or I know that there will be someone to point me in the right direction.
