1 year of college 2 years of placements I get to work on various systems, components and structures that let's me develop theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as gaining confidence.
I have developed my hand skills, communication and confidence to work on my own initiative, as I know I have the knowledge.
It is definitely the best aircraft maintenance apprenticeship because of the variety of aircraft we get to work on, as well as the opportunity to gain your a-license. Is is great to work with people with so much expertise and experience.
Very well. At college the timetable is clearly layed out and followed. The placements are each 6 months and you are given 3 months warning of where you are going next.
We get a lot of support academically.
Our training provider checks in face to face every few months. They provide feedback and advice on out task reports and knowledge evidence questions.
The knowledge we gain from college massively helps us on our placements, it provides the understanding needed to work on the majority of systems, components and structures on the aircraft. Our NVQ3 provides evidence on the knowledge we have gained, and steers us towards achieving specific criteria that will get us a wider range of experiences and knowledge.
There are lots of STEM events that we are encouraged to get involved in. The apprenticeship awards are held once a year to hold graduation and network. At each placement, there are some opportunities for socialising outside of work.
Yes
It is an incredible apprenticeship, that provides such a wide variety of experiences and knowledge. You will make friends you keep for the rest of your life. It is a great start to a long and successful career in aircraft maintenance.
You have got to be excited about aircraft maintenance. The course is full on, so you have to have passion, commitment and pure determination to get through it. Once you are in, it is so worth it.
