Business and Administration/Accounts. On a day to day basis I deal with all Purchase Invoices, Billings, Journals, Expenses, Timesheets, Petty Cash, Asset Register etc. A lot of my clients tend to be my internal colleagues however I do deal a lot with other organisations accounts departments. I have a responsibility to ensure all invoices are paid in a timely manner and ensure all bills I raise are sent to clients so we can get paid. I also have the responsibility of dealing with the asset register and keeping track of all our equipment.
I have learnt a lot since I first started with Mott MacDonald. Not only have I been progressing with my college course but I have also had a lot of training on things such as having an external Microsoft training course and learning how to touch type and becoming a DSE (VDU) Assessor. Going forward I also have a lot more training lined up both internally and externally. This is a really good company to progress in as I am continually building my professional/personal skills.
I thoroughly enjoy working for Mott MacDonald and have a really good working relationship with all my colleagues, especially my team. The company is very multi-cultural and so it broadens my knowledge. It has surpassed my expectations and I am happy an I guaranteed a job at the end of my apprenticeship.
I feel very valued in the company which is shown to me by way of feedback and praise. As I also have a good working relationship with my external clients this also makes me feel very valued as I am bringing a positive outlook to the company.
My programme has been structured very well. As I have gone onto my higher level NVQ I do feel that I could have a little bit more time set aside at work as I no longer have the opportunity to go into college on day release once a week. This is made better that my course is over a longer period so I can get all my work completed.
My tutor comes in on a regular basis to provide me with help and support. If ever I have an problems in between my visits, my tutor is more than happy to answer any questions via email. She has really helped to push me through the programme and she know the company is keen to support me also.
I receive a lot of help and support from my manager, I do not tend to deal much with HR regarding my course but I have all the help I need in Sheffield/Leeds. they are always on hand to help me as this is also helping the business to progress.
At Mott MacDonald we have a really good apprenticeship scheme where we get a pay rise yearly. Although this is lower than my usual wage which I was on before I started working here (I was 21 when I started here so I was on a better paid job however the opportunity to work here and progress here was too good to pass up!) it is a lot better than most places and it is something I can live on for my daily life such as my living costs. (It just means less holidays!!)
There are lots of opportunities outside of work. I am also part of the Mott MacDonald Sports & Social Committee and so I am always getting stuck into organising or taking part in activities outside of working hours. there are also lots of volunteering opportunities arising as we sponsor a chosen charity each year.
Yes
It is a really good opportunity not only for school leavers but for somebody who needs a change and to build up their personal/professional development.
Go for it! It is a really good opportunity to learn on the job. this gives you a much better skill base as you are getting stuck in whilst learning.
