I shadow more experienced people on a day to day basis and and assist them in what they are doing. I have even been given tasks to do by myself and have completed those tasks to the best of my ability. I even get the occasional project to work on which is not just a 5 minute job.
I have developed my skills that i learned in the college by using verniers and micrometers in QC inspection and developed my existing skills when it comes to hand fitting, using different grinding and cutting equipment. I have also learned some new skills such as awareness as i have learned to be very aware of my surroundings.
I really enjoy my programme as I enjoy learning, I am able to learn every day off the people around me which is always very helpful as they can pass their knowledge onto me. I also like how I am constantly set jobs which I am always wanting to do.
My programme is very well coordinated. The managers have divided the apprentices into different operations around the site for a month then we will swap and learn a completely different operation for another month. We are also getting our courses completed to make the tasks at hand easier for us.
We receive a lot of support from our employer such as PPE, courses and anything we ask for. They give us any information we need to know in good time and tell us if there are any changes happening in the company.
When with the training provider they try their best to help us to the best of their ability, but with how many people they have to teach to it can be sometimes difficult to understand with some people having a better understanding than others. When they are understanding something to you 1 on 1 I feel I understand a lot more than when it is a group discussion.
The training I was provided with was mostly machine work such as lathes, milling machines and welding. Although these are great to learn, my workplace does not have this equipment. Some of the things we learned in college did transfer to the workplace such as plant workshop and hydraulics and pneumatic s which helps me significantly on a day to day basis
Yes, there is a 5 aside group chat for every Tuesday which i usually get involved in and there is often something hosted by the company such as bowling, christmas parties or even just a gathering.
Yes
I have already referred a friend to my company because I have worked with him before and I know he is work driven for the things this company does so I know he would enjoy working here.
I would definitely recommend applying to this company. I would advise keeping your head down and sticking in. If you need any help from anyone do not be afraid to ask.
