My role consists of building and testing valves, some days I am shadowing other experienced valve technicians and learning on the job and once I feel competent I work on my own building and testing valves. An example of me testing a valve is I was working on a 24 hour body test for Murlach, I also write up my job reports for college and write up my off the job hours so any activity I do that's not for my apprenticeship for example cleaning up.
I have learnt how to organise my time effectively for example I am working in product engineering and I have to organise and sort out for what job needs doing first and create a spreadsheet of what jobs are coming in and out, I have also developed my skills in using a tap this is where I learnt to go a full turn forward and half a turn back this is so to not snap the tap in the job to create a perfect thread.
I am really enjoying my program because I am learning a lot of different skills meeting a lot of nice people and really developing an enjoyment in my job role, I am enjoying visiting various different aspects of the business and getting a feel for how Bel Valves operates from top to bottom.
I feel like my program is structured because when I come into work there is a morning meeting where it explains what job role you will be doing for the day and also I get given specific jobs that I know to be working on this is helpful because there is always jobs to be doing.
I receive a fair bit of support from my managers and team leaders and if I am ever struggling with any obstacle I feel more than okay to ask for assistance and advice. I also am allowed time during my week to complete any unfinished college work which is extremely helpful because it allows me to keep updated with it all and not fall behind and create a backlog of extra work.
When working at college I receive some support with my work and help on assignments, I received quite a lot of support in help with my PEO doing milling turning and hand fitting so whenever I struggled they helped me and assisted me in what to do and guide me in the right direction.
I believe some of the lessons I do in college help me with my day to day role in work for example maths helps me work out tasks that I might not been able to work out if it wasn't for the lesson and mechanical principles helps me give a understanding about what we do here at work
I am in a darts league with most of members of staff on our breaks which is very fun and I also always partake in sports and social events such as on this Friday there is a bowling event and I will be attending and they are always very fun.
Yes
I believe Bel valves is a great company to work for, everyone is really friendly and easily approachable and that goes for management and staff also there is loads of different aspects to the building and that allows for it to suit everyone for example if you want to be in the more physical aspect then you will be on the shop floor or if you want to be more behind the scenes and design then the design department is for you.
just try your hardest and give everything a go and tackle it head on and don't be afraid to ask for help because everyone doesn't mind working as a team and your not going to get into trouble if you don't know something and there is always ways to progress if you try hard and work your way up the business ladder.
