Currently, I am learning the Bid Lifecycle - learning the parts before and after Tendering so I can fully understand the role. Then I will fill in Tender documents within the given timeframe, and assist people with various tasks (around the office or with documents), although this is by choice if I have some free time.
I have learnt to efficiently manage my time, deadlines, and workload properly. I have also developed my listening skills, confidence with unknown people (customers and around the office) and it has also greatly helped my attention span and concentration.
I am very pleased with my apprenticeship as it has helped me to gain knowledge on the industry while learning and working at the same time. This is a much preferred way of learning for myself, this helps me maintain attention and also enjoy working.
My program has been very well structured due to, a strong team, manager, and a strong and specialised course. This has helped me gain knowledge in the whole industry, not just my job role which is crucial to understanding what is required of my role and the business as a whole.
I have received lots of help from - team members, my manager, and anyone who possesses adequate knowledge is always happy to help. This has played a big part in adapting to a work environment and learning the industry as I was completely new to the industry in September.
When assignments are required for my qualification, we usually have a half-day webinar going through the requirements and expectation of what is expected of us and the necessary resources needed to complete the tasks. Although they understand that things might not always go to plan and will allow extensions if requested.
As I am completing a Bid and Proposal course, I feel that my course is very specialised and practical towards my job role as a Tendering Engineer. This covers the whole of the Bid and Sales lifecycle. In a business like Schneider, knowledge is key and will this will help me grow my career, internally and externally.
I am currently completing Duke of Edenborough through Schneider Electric, along with other apprentices. This is a great opportunity to build connections and network with other apprentices all over the country. I also help out with the Customer Engagement Team and the Apprentice Committee. We usually try to plan outings and networking events for apprentices and Employees as a whole.
Yes
As someone who came into Schneider Electric from High School, I was aware that this could be a very daunting process for a 16 year old, with little work experience and new to a working environment. Due to this, I was very reserved in the early parts of my professional career, until I realised that it was safe environment and that It was okay to be confused. Everyone was so willing to help which hugely impacted me and adjusting from a School environment to a Work environment.
I would recommend to build relationships and network with everyone you can, as ultimately you need reliable people to almost lean on when you need some help. Some of these will be in your team but, you might need some information that your team does not know, so having strong connections throughout the business is a very valuable and crucial part for a new starter.
