We create infrastructure for the other developers, using code as a service. We are responsible for the templates and documentation of our 3 products. We keep them updated and provide operations support for our stakeholders.
I have learnt about an entirely new field of Computer Science learning about how a company produces, updates and maintains their infrastructure and what it does for the company as a whole. The world of cloud computing is entirely new and refines all of my existing skills in the field.
I am thoroughly enjoying my programme with a team of experienced senior developers to turn to for advice and support throughout my experience as an apprentice. Alongside my other two apprentices, I am finding the work rewarding and intensely interesting.
My programme has been structured to allow me to program at my own rate over the course of 15-24 months. This gives me the freedom to learn what I would like to learn and specialise into a division of my work giving me access to certifications besides my Apprenticeship itself.
I receive as much support as I require, my teammates are always willing to help me whenever I need assistance or direction. The flexibility of how I approach my work and my personal life makes the work I do stress free and enjoyable.
My training provider has been lacking in support compared to that of RWE and my coworkers. This is most likely due to the course being below my initial skill level in the programme as I am forced to wait for others to catch up. This is not really a complaint as much as my fault for selecting a level 3 course.
I feel as though my qualification does not specialise deeply enough to support me through my work with the company however I am given the additional resources to research and practice the type of work that my team is required to engage in despite it not being covered in the course itself.
I am constantly involved in social activities with the company with regular trips abroad for social events, offsites and parties allowing me to socialise and network to the highest degree. This allows for me to meet all types of people from varying fields of work. It allows me to see how the company comes together.
Yes
RWE is one of the most flexible, approachable and rewarding apprenticeships I've ever seen or heard of. The company is incredibly supportive and actually provides more learning experiences that than of QA itself allowing for you to push yourself at your own pace.
Ensure you know what you're applying for, what kind of company this is and what attitude you're bringing to the table. This company is incredible in the way it treats it's employees and doesn't have the highest amount of applicants meaning the competition isn't too fierce.
