Completing desk based studies, looking at environmental baseline data and potential constraints in the area. Using spreadsheets to manage data and keep track of deliverables. Attending meetings. Making maps using ArcGIS software. Partaking in extracurricular activities such as lunchtime running club and craft club. Being a member of the Early Careers Professionals and Brilliant Neighbours committees. Completing health and safety paperwork, planning and attending site visits.
I have developed my interpersonal skills, learning how to communicate professionally and efficiently. Learning how to use ArcGIS, developing my Excel skills and learning how to write formal structured reports.
I thoroughly enjoy it. There is such a breadth of experiences available and everyone I work with is very supportive.
As I am only the second year, it is still in its debugging stage, but the progress since I started is undoubtable and it is clear that both Mott Macdonald and Coventry University are working hard to prioritise apprentices and make the experience as good as it can be.
As an apprentice, Mott Macdonald are very understanding of the fact that I am still learning and people are always willing to help support and give advice. Mott Macdonald also prioritises individual physical and mental health and acknowledges outside commitments with allocated carers leave.
Coventry University are very responsive to all feedback and are always trying to improve the transparency, understanding, and teaching style to suit the apprentices.
I have learned a lot about environmental theory and legislation that has helped me to understand what I am assessing at work and how it aligns with helping the wider environment.
At Mott Macdonald there are lots of extracurricular activities, such as lunchtime running club, craft club, netball and football. There are also regular sports and social events such as a painting class, yoga, go karting. And there are the big celebrations such as the end of year party and the sports day that includes all offices nationwide.
