My role involves working within a Agile (Scrum) Squad at RWEST. To start my morning I come into the office and have a daily meeting to catch up with the team and discuss what we are going to be doing. Then one of my personal responsibilities is to run a morning checks to make sure that our project is functioning as it should be. I work alongside the teams developers and project managers, we have frequent discussions about how I can ensure that our project meets the customers requirements and how I can test to ensure this. Through out the week you will be in close contact with your peers working as a team towards a goal. As a Tester it is my responsibility to strive for quality.
Since starting at RWE I have already had the opportunity to learn and develop the following skills. • C# (Programming Language) • RPA (Robotic Process Automation) • Selenium (Test Automation Software) •BDD (Behaviour Driven Development) •ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level 4 (Certification) •BCS Agile Tester (Certification) •BCS Software Development Methodologies Level 4 (Certification) From my experience of working at RWE is that they are keen to upskill employees and have been then happy to fund external Courses
Working at RWE has so far been been great. Work Since I have started, the work I have undertook has been very hands on. But don't worry you wont be thrown into the deep end! At the start you will be given an in-depth overview and relevant training that will start to help you integrate into your team. Then only when you are ready will you start to undertake your own objectives. Working in a squad that is developing applications that will be used by RWE has soo far been my favourite part because it helps you gain skills that are in demand and being used widely, also it feels good to create something that will benefit the company. Team Being part of a team is great, Here are some reasons why: • Friendly Peers that are willing to help • Working in a Agile Team gives your work life structure and helps you learn about how to work in different software delivery methodologies. • Collaboration within and outside the team How well does it meet your expectations? My apprenticeship at RWE so far has exceeded my expectations. I feel very integrated into my team and I also feel like RWE are willing to invest in you.
My Programme seems very well structured, here's why: • Monthly 1 to 1s with my Team Leader • Monthly apprentice meetings (Includes all other apprentices that are also doing the same role, we can show and tell our work and talk about it) • Meetings with a college reviewer to align work and college/discuss portfolio. • Friday is my college day (Off the job training)
My manager is very proactive in making sure that the work we are carrying out is linked with our college syllabus. She frequently gets us all together to talk about our programme and make sure we aligned. Since working here i have felt very supportive by RWE and our managers.
From my Training provider I am supposed to have monthly meeting with our college contact in order to get alignment regarding our portfolio. At college the staff are very friendly and so far have all been great to work with. However there has been some times where the college has been slow to get things started.
I feel that my training from college helps me come to work well prepared and ready. At college we cover topics that correspond with my role at RWE. This means I am always learning new things I can come to work and try to integrate. For example recently we have been coding at college and this has helped me get better at it. Then at work when I'm coding I now have my new skills to put to test.
Each year RWE hosts a Christmas party and also a mid year summer parties, although i haven't attended one of these yet due to Covid I can imagine that these are great events for networking and having fun. At RWE there is a free onsite gym that you can attend 24/7.
Yes
I would recommend RWE to friend because it is a very friendly place to work with a culture of up skilling and collaboration. It is a great place to start your journey due to RWE's investment in its employees. Also RWE is a huge company with lots of different job roles so in the future if you wanted to try something new, there is something you could do.
Be yourself. Be confident. Come prepared and ready. Do not be afraid to ask questions. Do some research to show your interest in the company. Research the role you are apply for so you know what your in for. Don't be worried or nervous its a grate opportunity come prepared and be yourself!
